Speaking on Galei Tzahal this morning, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amos Gilead,a former head of the Defense Ministry’s political-security division, and the executive director of the Institute for Policy and Strategy at IPS Herzliya, discussed the recent meeting between Defense Minister Benny Gantz and PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
“The Palestinian Authority is part of our defense establishment,” he said. “Security cooperation with the PA is a strategic asset for Israel. During Operation Guardian of the Walls, Hamas attempted to inflame the situation in Judea and Samaria, but they didn’t succeed.”
Gilead added that, “Despite the existence of the Abraham Accords, we aren’t going to make further progress with countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan due to the Palestinian issue. If we wipe out Palestinian aspirations, at the end of the day this will affect our relations with many other countries.”
