Anti-Israel U.N. Official Forced to Resign

The leader of a United Nations-backed agency known for its anti-Israel bias has resigned from the organization after U.S. and Israeli officials aggressively pushed back against a report dubbing the Jewish state an “apartheid regime.”

Rima Khalef, a Jordanian citizen who heads the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, issued a report this week criticizing Israel and labeling it as promoting apartheid.

The report was immediately criticized by Israeli officials and others who viewed it as yet another attempt by the U.N. to unjustly delegitimize the Jewish state, according to reports.

Khalef announced her resignation from the agency on Friday after refusing requests from U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres to withdraw the report.
