Peter Cherif, a French terrorist linked to the Charlie Hebdo attackers, is on trial in Paris for terrorism-related offenses allegedly committed between 2011 and 2018. Cherif, also known as Abou Hamza, was arrested in Djibouti in 2018 after years of allegedly fighting in the ranks of Al-Qaeda. He is believed to have facilitated the integration of one of the Kouachi brothers into AQAP and had knowledge of the plan to carry out an attack in France. Cherif denies having knowledge of the planned attack. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
