Kibbutz Holit, which was ravaged during a massacre in October, is set to trial two new innovative vegetable varieties as part of its rehabilitation. The trials will involve a gene-edited potato that has had its natural toxins removed and a semi-dried tomato that grows on the bush. The gene editing process allows the stems and leaves of the potato plant to be used as livestock feed, freeing up land for other crops. The trials will take place at Kibbutz Holit, and the goal is to set up a center where farmers can propagate the gene-edited seeds.
