The US and Iraq have agreed to withdraw US and other foreign troops from Iraq by the end of 2026, according to US defense officials. Troops based in Baghdad, western Iraq, and other parts of the country will leave by next September, followed by a drawdown in Erbil by the end of the following year. A small group of advisers may remain beyond 2026. The deal is expected to be publicly announced next week.
