Ten Supreme Court justices have requested to retract their candidacies for Supreme Court president after Justice Minister Yariv Levin nominated them without their consent. Levin had refused to hold a vote for a new Supreme Court president for the past 11 months, in an attempt to appoint a hardline conservative justice. The 1984 Courts Law does not explicitly state whether a candidate can withdraw their candidacy, but the Movement for Quality Government in Israel argues that the committee, not the minister, determines the hearings and work of the forum. It is unclear if Levin will be able to force the committee to hold hearings on all 12 justices during the appointment process.
