US Sen. Ben Cardin has launched a campaign to showcase human rights challenges around the world, but the campaign intentionally excludes any reference to human rights violations committed by Israel. The campaign aims to spotlight a wide range of causes, featuring activists from various countries, but it excludes pro-Palestinian activism. Cardin, who has aggressively condemned students protesting against Israel's war on Gaza, introduced the Human Rights Defenders Protection Act and the Antisemitism Awareness Act to target pro-Palestinian activists. The campaign, funded by the US government, includes the production of documentaries to inspire human rights activism. Cardin has received nearly $1 million in pro-Israel funding for his election campaigns.
