The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross has called on countries to urgently recommit to respecting international law, as the Geneva Conventions are being disregarded in conflicts worldwide. Mirjana Spoljaric highlighted the high number of casualties in conflicts in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine, stating that international humanitarian law is being systematically trampled underfoot. The ICRC is finding its access to populations in need increasingly constrained and instrumentalized. In response, the ICRC has launched an initiative with six countries to galvanize political support for international humanitarian law and develop recommendations to prevent violations and protect civilians.
