Poland has appointed Maciej Hunia as its new ambassador to Israel after a three-year absence. Hunia, a former head of Poland's intelligence service and military intelligence agency, has visited Israel multiple times in the past. During his confirmation hearing, he stated that military actions causing unintended civilian casualties cannot be classified as genocide. However, Hunia is currently unable to present his credentials to Israel's President Isaac Herzog due to an internal political dispute. The diplomatic rift between Poland and Israel began in 2021 over a review of Israeli youth trips to Poland, which had been paused during the COVID-19 pandemic.
