The IDF announced that Hamas commander Mahmoud Hamdan, previously believed to be dead, was actually killed on Friday. Hamdan was responsible for guarding Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and the Israeli hostages who were murdered in August. The IDF stated that Hamdan played a significant role in planning the October 7 attack and was involved in other attacks during the ongoing war. The military mistakenly declared his death last month and released video footage of the strike. It is believed that 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas in October remain in Gaza.
