Israel is currently without an ambassador in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after Amir Hayek completed his term and returned to Israel. Hayek was the only Israeli ambassador to an Arab country who did not return home following the outbreak of the war. Yossi Shelley is expected to replace Hayek, but the appointment has not yet been approved by the Foreign Ministry. The delay is due to previous political appointments in the foreign service.
