Accused of meddling in war or muddling rights, High Court rankles both left and right

The High Court of Justice in Israel has faced criticism from both the left and the right for its handling of cases related to civil rights and national security during the ongoing conflict. Liberal organizations and politicians argue that the court has not acted quickly or firmly enough to protect civil rights, while conservative groups claim that the court has been too activist and has improperly pressured the government. The court has rejected some petitions on technical grounds and has been reticent to issue definitive rulings against the government. Activists argue that the court must go beyond signaling to authorities and issue actual rulings to protect rights. However, conservatives argue that the court should wait until after the war to address petitions and that during times of war, the courts should not pressure key institutions involved in alleged rights violations to change their policies.
