Saudi Arabia and Iran recently held joint military exercises in the Sea of Oman, according to the Saudi defense ministry. The two countries, who have been rivals and severed diplomatic ties in 2016, resumed relations last year. The exercises come after Iran announced plans for joint military drills with Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia's naval forces also participated in a military drill in the northern Indian Ocean alongside Iran, Russia, Oman, and six observer countries.
