Yoni Ben Menachem of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs believes that Israel should control Gaza for at least two or three years in order to eradicate Hamas and its military infrastructure. He argues that only with full control can Israel effectively eliminate terrorists and destroy tunnels. Ben Menachem also criticizes the IDF for not applying enough military pressure and intelligence effort to locate the hostages held by Hamas. He believes that signing a ceasefire agreement with Hamas is premature and unlikely to bring the hostages home.
