The US Senate has blocked legislation that would have halted the sale of some US weapons to Israel, despite concerns about the human rights situation in Gaza. The resolution to block sales of tank rounds to Israel was opposed by 79 out of 100 senators, with 18 in favor and one abstention. Two other resolutions to stop shipments of mortar rounds and a GPS guidance system for bombs were also set to be voted on. The resolutions were filed by Senator Bernie Sanders and co-sponsored by several Democrats, but strong bipartisan support for Israel made their passage unlikely.
