The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Iran is displaying a collection of Western artwork, including pieces that have not been seen by the public in over a decade. The exhibition, titled 'Eye to Eye', has drawn crowds of women who are surprised that such art can be seen without going abroad. The collection, which includes works by Monet, Warhol, and others, was acquired by the government of Iran's Western-backed shah in the late 1970s. However, after the shah was ousted in 1979, the art was packed away to avoid offending Islamic values. The exhibition offers a rare government-sanctioned event that is not related to politics or religion.
