Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops engaged in fierce clashes at the key south Lebanon town of Khiam and in the coastal Bayada area. Israeli troops were attempting to control Khiam, a strategic gateway for a ground incursion. Hezbollah said its fighters had attacked Israeli troops about 20 times in and around the large town. The clashes have resulted in a high number of casualties and deaths in Lebanon since September this year.
