The UN special envoy for Syria has expressed concern over the expansion of the conflict in the region, urging for immediate ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon to prevent Syria from being further dragged into the conflict. Israel has intensified its strikes on targets in Syria since its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon escalated into full-scale war. The recent Israeli strikes on the city of Palmyra resulted in the deaths of 105 people, mostly pro-Iran fighters. Israel has consistently stated that it will not allow Iran to expand its presence in Syria.
