Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has called for death sentences to be issued for Israeli leaders in response to the International Criminal Court's arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense chief Yoav Gallant. The ICC judges believe there are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant are criminally responsible for acts including murder, persecution, and starvation as a weapon of war against the civilian population of Gaza. Israel has rejected the jurisdiction of the court and denies war crimes in Gaza.
