A study conducted by the Michal Sela Forum in Israel found that guard dogs given to threatened women reduced violent threats by 70%. The Canines Program, initiated by the nonprofit organization, gifts guard dogs to women at risk of domestic violence. The study also revealed that the presence of a dog increased women's feelings of security, personal safety, freedom, and control by 73%. The program has served over 414 women and 1,399 children, providing them with free dogs for an average of seven years. The Forum also offers other protection programs, including Sayeret Michal, which installs cameras, provides self-defense lessons, and offers private security patrols.
