Rebel organizations in northern Syria launched a surprise attack on the Syrian army in Aleppo, resulting in 130 deaths. The attack, called 'deterring aggression,' led to fierce fighting and the capture of settlements. Russian planes also bombed rebel strongholds near the Turkish border. The death toll includes 65 fighters from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), 18 of its allies, and 49 Syrian army soldiers. The battles in Aleppo and Idlib provinces have caused the highest number of casualties in recent years. The Syrian military and Russian forces are responding to the attack.
