Pro-Iranian militias enter Syria from Iraq to aid beleaguered Syrian army

Pro-Iranian militias have entered Syria from Iraq to support the Syrian army in their battle against insurgents. Dozens of Iranian-backed fighters crossed into Syria through a military route near Al Bukamal crossing. The reinforcements include Iraq's Katiab Hezbollah and Fatemiyoun groups. The lack of manpower to counter the rebel onslaught contributed to the Syrian army's retreat from Aleppo city. Militias allied to Iran, including Hezbollah, have a strong presence in the Aleppo area.
