President-elect Donald Trump says the US military should stay out of the conflict in Syria as opposition forces advance on the capital. The Biden administration also has no intention of intervening in the Syrian civil war, according to President Joe Biden's national security adviser. The insurgents, led by Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, have met little resistance from the Syrian army, Russian and Iranian militaries, or allied militias. The US has about 900 troops in Syria, focused on disrupting ISIS operations and protecting US troops. Trump's defense transition chief said the collapse of the Assad government would be a major blow to Iran's power.
