Family of first fallen African Hebrew Israelite soldier granted Israeli citizenship

Oshriya and Avishai Young, the mother and brother of fallen IDF soldier Sgt. Elishai Young, will receive Israeli citizenship without renouncing their U.S. citizenship. Sgt. Young was killed in battle in Gaza last October, becoming the first fallen soldier from the Hebrew Israelite community. The decision to grant citizenship reflects the unique sensitivity of the situation and is exceptional under Israel's Citizenship Law. Interior Minister Moshe Arbel stated that recognizing Sgt. Young's sacrifice is part of their moral duty.
