NASA's Parker Solar Probe has made its closest ever pass by the sun, flying closer than any other spacecraft. The probe's heat shield was exposed to temperatures of over 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit. Launched in 2018, the mission aims to deepen scientific understanding of the sun and forecast space-weather events. The probe's internal instruments remain near room temperature thanks to its effective heat shield. Parker will also be moving at a speed of around 430,000 mph.
