The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has established temporary bases in the Netzarim Corridor in the Gaza Strip, indicating a long-term presence in the area. The IDF has been steadily expanding its presence in the corridor, which is intended to serve as a bargaining chip in a hostage deal with Hamas. The corridor is currently controlled by the 99th Division's Harel Reserve Armored Brigade and the 551st Reserve Paratroopers Brigade. The IDF has established more than a dozen small military outposts and at least four forward operating bases in the corridor, from which it launches raids against Hamas in Gaza City and central Gaza.
