Israel waited until after the inauguration of new Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian to assassinate former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, according to a report by Channel 12. The plan almost went awry when the air conditioner unit in Haniyeh's room broke, causing concerns that he had switched rooms. However, the staff managed to fix the unit and Haniyeh returned to his room, where the bomb was detonated. Haniyeh was replaced as Hamas political leader by Yahya Sinwar, who was later killed in October.
