Lebanon's civil aviation authority has reported that Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport welcomed 11,700 visitors in one day, with a total of 220,000 arrivals in December. Most of the arrivals are expatriates and Syrians returning to spend the holidays with their families. Lebanon is recovering from a recent Israeli war against Hezbollah, and while some areas are still dealing with the destruction, others are preparing for the new year with holiday decorations and increased road traffic. Security agencies are taking precautions to ensure the safety of tourists, and airlines that suspended flights to Lebanon during the war may resume their schedules in the next 10 days. In other news, a parliamentary session is scheduled for January 9 to elect a president, a position that has been vacant for 26 months due to political disputes.
