Police forbid anti-war protest, citing expected speeches 'weakening security forces'

Police have blocked a planned anti-war rally in the north of Israel, citing reasons such as expected inciting speeches and concerns about security forces. The far-left Communist Party of Israel (Maki) had requested permission to hold a march in the city of Sakhnin, calling for an end to the war and increased efforts against violent crime in the Arab community. However, the police refused to authorize the demonstration due to the ongoing state of war, the proximity of the route to sensitive security sites, and intelligence suggesting a larger turnout than requested. The police warned the organizers of potential criminal liability if the protest proceeded.
