A massive Byzantine-era monastery complex with a unique mosaic floor and a wine-making operation was discovered in southern Israel. The mosaic contains a biblical inscription from the Book of Deuteronomy and is considered one of the most unique ever found in Israel. The monastery is the largest and most significant site discovered in the region from that period. The complex also included evidence of a local pottery industry and a sophisticated wine press. The site is believed to have served smaller settlements in the area as well as travelers passing by.
