The US Department of Education is launching an investigation into Sarah Lawrence College following a complaint from the campus Hillel chapter alleging a hostile environment for Jewish students. The complaint accuses the college of failing to respond properly to harassment of Jewish students after the October 2023 Hamas massacre in Israel. The investigation will examine whether the college failed to address alleged harassment of students on the basis of national origin. Hillels of Westchester, the organization that filed the complaint, hopes the investigation will lead to a culture shift at the college.
