A number of British imams are establishing new organizations to represent the UK's Muslim communities due to a lack of engagement from successive governments with established Muslim bodies. The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) and other groups are considered too small to effectively lobby for or represent the country's 3.8 million Muslims. The MCB, which represents around 500 mosques, schools, and charities, does not issue religious declarations. Instead of simply replacing the MCB, a series of new initiatives will be established to increase connection between British Muslims and the government and better represent and engage the community.
