Displaced Palestinian father Tayseer Obaid has dug a shelter in war-battered Gaza to protect his family from the cold and rain. The shelter is a square hole nearly two meters deep, covered with a tarpaulin and lined with mattresses. Obaid fears that the clay soil could collapse if there is an explosion nearby. The war in Gaza has displaced nearly all of its 2.4 million inhabitants, and 66% of buildings have been damaged or destroyed. The lack of safe buildings and shortages of construction materials have forced many Palestinians to live in makeshift camps.
