Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding meetings with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to prevent him from quitting the government over the hostage-ceasefire deal. The government may pass a separate decision to appease Smotrich, stating that the war against Hamas will not end until Hamas is destroyed militarily and in terms of governing capacity. The decision will also include a new war goal of destroying terrorism in the West Bank. Even if Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir vote against the deal, it is expected to be approved by both the security cabinet and the full cabinet. Ben Gvir may withdraw his party from the coalition.
