UN Secretary-General António Guterres pledges international support for Lebanon's speedy recovery and rebuilding efforts. Guterres made the commitment during a meeting with Lebanon's newly elected president Joseph Aoun in Beirut. The appointment of a president and prime minister will help consolidate Lebanese institutions and allow for the deployment of the Lebanese army across the country. The US-brokered ceasefire aims to end the Israel-Hezbollah war and includes the withdrawal of Hezbollah from the border area with Israel.
