Muslim charities in the UK are still experiencing the closure of their bank accounts without explanation, despite the political backlash following Nigel Farage's debanking. A report from the Muslim Charities Forum (MCF) found that 68% of Muslim charities faced difficulties opening bank accounts, 42% experienced complete withdrawal of banking services, and 42% had significant challenges with transferring funds. These obstacles have delayed payments and damaged humanitarian work. The MCF report also highlighted real-life harms, including delayed payments to hospitals in conflict zones and eviction notices due to late payments. The report suggests that structural Islamophobia plays a role in the targeting of Muslim-led charities by banks.
