The three hostages who were released earlier today have all said since their return that they were held in harsh conditions, frequently moved around, and had scarce food. One hostage was kept in tunnels and locked in a room to avoid being spotted. Another hostage was beaten, put in cages, and subjected to psychological abuse. Despite the mistreatment, one hostage remained hopeful and even learned Arabic. Families of the freed hostages also reported being told they were going home soon, only to have their hopes dashed.
