Azerbaijan's state oil company, SOCAR, is purchasing a 10% stake in Israel's Tamar gas field from Israeli businessman Aaron Frenkel. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. This acquisition is part of SOCAR's plan to expand its production footprint by acquiring stakes in strategic assets in foreign countries. The agreement is subject to certain conditions being met, including regulatory and other approvals. Israel has become a gas exporter since the discovery of natural gas fields off its Mediterranean coast, and the Tamar field has been exporting gas to Jordan since 2017.
