Palestinians in Gaza are appealing for emergency aid, including temporary housing, after the recent ceasefire. The Palestinian Authority estimates immediate funding needs of $6.5 billion for temporary housing for Gaza's population of over two million. Hamas, the militant Palestinian group, says Gaza needs 200,000 tents and 60,000 caravans. In addition, there is an urgent need for heavy machinery to clear rubble and recover bodies. Importing medical and shelter equipment still faces impediments due to Israel's concerns about potential 'dual use'. Many people who fled northern Gaza have returned to find their homes destroyed and are in need of immediate assistance.
