The international community should offer aid to Gaza in exchange for the forfeit of weapons, in order to prevent another outbreak of violence. By conditioning aid on the turning-in of weapons, the international community can affirm Palestinian agency and treat them as adults capable of choosing their path forward. This Trade for Aid deal will create the conditions for the people of Gaza to take control of their situation and reduce the casus belli for Israel. It is a crucial step towards demilitarizing Gaza and opening a new chapter for the betterment of the region.
