Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that Israel would boycott the UN Human Rights Council, accusing the body of anti-Semitism and focusing on attacking Israel instead of promoting human rights. The minister cited Israel being the only country with a dedicated agenda item and subject to more resolutions than Iran, Cuba, North Korea, and Venezuela combined. In response, the UNHRC stated that Israel, as an observer state, cannot withdraw from the council. Israel has previously boycotted debates on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories. The US also recently withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council and the UN relief agency for Palestinians.
