Israel has announced that its forces will remain in refugee camps in the occupied West Bank for an extended period of time after displacing tens of thousands of Palestinians in a military operation. The offensive, which began a month ago, has expanded to multiple refugee camps near Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas. Tanks have been deployed in Jenin for the first time since the end of the second Palestinian intifada in 2005. The Israeli government's increased attention to the West Bank is seen as a response to the ceasefire deal with Hamas in Gaza. The violence in the West Bank has escalated since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
