Leaders of eight Arab countries gathered for an emergency summit in Riyadh to develop a counterproposal to US President Donald Trump's Gaza takeover plan. Arab leaders are in agreement that the Palestinian Authority (PA) must play a role in the effort, but there is consensus that PA President Mahmoud Abbas is not critical to the effort. Abbas was not invited to the summit, and even Jordan's King Abdullah, Abbas's closest ally, did not advocate for his attendance. Arab leaders are feeling pressure from the Trump administration and are willing to abandon Abbas if it will save them from the US.
