Conservative filmmakers are outraged that their movies weren't considered for Oscar nominations, with at least one claiming his work was excluded thanks to DEI requirements. The requirements for the Oscars were first put into place by the Academy for the 96th annual ceremony in 2024. Any film up for Best Picture has to meet two out of four of diversity standards, which involve making sure underrepresented groups are in the cast and/or crew of the film. Howard Klausner, the screenwriter of the 2024 presidential biopic Reagan starring Dennis Quaid, said his film wasn't in the running because it didn't meet the DEI guidelines set forth by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
