Eyal Zamir has replaced Herzi Halevi as IDF chief of staff in a ceremony led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Zamir, who has previously held prominent positions in the IDF high command, was also promoted to lieutenant general. Netanyahu praised Zamir's capabilities and highlighted his role in helping Israel become more independent in producing its own weaponry. Zamir's appointment was announced on February 16, following approval from a vetting committee. He had previously come in second in the race for IDF chief in January 2023.
