The US has sanctioned seven Houthi leaders and an individual involved in sending Yemeni civilians to fight for Russia in Ukraine, just a day after re-designating the group as a foreign terrorist organization. The leaders were involved in smuggling military-grade items and negotiating arms deals with Russia on behalf of the Iran-backed group. The Houthis have carried out over 100 attacks on ships off Yemen in support of Palestinian terrorists fighting Israel. The US government is committed to holding the Houthis accountable for acquiring weapons from suppliers in Russia, China, and Iran to threaten Red Sea security.
