Jordanian border forces clashed with armed smuggling groups attempting to cross the northern border from Syria into Jordan. Four smugglers were killed and the remaining individuals retreated into Syrian territory. Large quantities of narcotics and weapons were seized and transferred to the relevant authorities. Jordan and Syria have formed a joint security committee to secure their border and combat arms and drug smuggling.
