Russia has shipped a diesel cargo to Syria on a tanker under US sanctions, marking the first known direct supply to the country in over a decade. The final destination of the cargo is unclear, but Russia has two main military installations in Syria that it wants to maintain control over. The tanker, named Prosperity, is anchored near the Syrian port of Banias. This is the first direct diesel shipment from Russia to Syria since at least 2013.
