Uri Shulevitz, a Polish-born children's book author and illustrator known for his works that drew from his experiences escaping the Nazis, has died at the age of 89. Shulevitz published over 40 books, winning a Caldecott Medal in 1969 for his illustrations in 'The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship.' His other notable works include 'How I Learned Geography' and 'Chance: Escape from the Holocaust.' Shulevitz's final book, 'The Sky Was My Blanket: A Young Man's Journey Across Wartime Europe,' is set to be published in August.
