US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to an immediate pause in strikes against energy and infrastructure targets in the Ukraine war, but Putin did not back a broader 30-day pause in fighting. The White House hopes this is the first step towards a movement to peace, including a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea and a full end to the fighting. Negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East. It is unclear if Ukraine is on board with the limited ceasefire plan. Putin also called on Trump to end foreign military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
